Item Description: Paul Elder and Company, San Francisco, 1907. Book Condition: Very Good. First edition. Thick woven cloth stamped in green lettering, color illustrated label on front board, top edge gilt. Color frontispiece by E. Almond Withrow. Illustrations are provided by Maynard Dixon, Merle Johnson, Gordon Ross and others. Dedicatory Poem by George Sterling. Hinges cracked, green lettering a little worn, small stain on foredge of rear board, else a very good copy. Prominent American lawyer, John Francis Neylan's decorative bookplate on front fly illustrated and produced by William H. Wilke and John Henry Nash. Apparently produced by a group of California authors for the Spinner's Benefit Fund, the first beneficiary of whom was Ina D. Coolbrith. Contibution by Jack London The League of the Old Men. Inscribed card to E. Almond Withrow from the Sister Spinners affixed to blank preliminary page. Inscribed on that same page from the frontispiece illustrator Evelyn Almond Withrow to Marie Withrow in December, 1908. Marie Withrow's decorative bookplate affixed to front pastedown.
