About this Item: The Limited Editions Club, New York, 1997. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Cartier-Bresson, Henri (illustrator). Limited Edition. Number 146 of 300, folio size, unpaginated [36] pp., signed by Henri Cartier-Bresson. A stunning production of Baudelaire paired with Cartier-Bresson's searing photography. "In 'Les Fleurs du Mal' (The Flowers of Evil), Charles Baudelaire explored the dark regions of the human psyche. From that masterpiece of mid-nineteenth century poetry, the world-renowned artist Henri Cartier-Bresson culled three poems through which he sought to express the poet's thought via the medium of photography: 'What a Pair of Eyes Can Promise,' 'The Giantess,' and 'Agnostos Theos'-or, to give them their original French titles respectively: 'Les Presses d'un Visage,' 'Hymne,' and 'La Geante.' They range from pure inspiration of love to unabashed sensuality - the variegated petals of the flowers of evil." Presented here "on facing pages, Baudelaire's original; French poems and their English translations, all chosen as the most faithful versions that have been made." (N.B., above info and quotes from the LEC Newsletter.) ***DESCRIPTION: Original full red linen over boards with printed paper label inset to the upper board, fore-edge uncut, white endpapers, four photogravures including the frontispiece; hand-set Walbaum type, mould-made cover stock from the Arches mill in Epinal, France, folio size (14.5" by 14"), unpaginated [36] pp., limited edition, this number 146 of 300, signed by Henri Cartier-Bresson. LEC Monthly Newsletter loosely laid in, housed in a red linen fall-down-back box lined in black velvet. ***CONDITION: An immaculate copy in a like case; very fine. ***POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply, please inquire for details. ***Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell. About this Item: Aux Adresses ordinaires de Musique, A Paris, 1792. Folio. [i (title)], 25, 25pp. Modern marbled boards. Pictorial title-page by Ribière (fl.1778-1812) after Jean Baptiste Debret (1768-1848). Engraved. Early ownership signatures and minor ink marks. Imprint signed "dono auctoris", almost certainly in Cartier’s hand since an engraved note at the foot states that all copies will be signed by the composer. Cartier was a brilliant violinist who managed to remain a member of the orchestra under both the Bourbon and Napoleonic regimes. He was accompanist to Marie-Antoinette and the author of the important L'Art du Violon (1798). First edition. RISM A/I/2 C 1378 citing just one copy (Bibliothèque Nationale). About this Item: Hermann. Couverture rigide. Condition: Comme neuf. Dust Jacket Condition: Comme neuf. 2ème Édition. Paris 2005. 1 Volume/1. " [ Jean Leymarie ] ****************************. Seller Inventory # 66-od-617w
