Quarter black calf with gilt spine lettering and rules and brown pebble-grain cloth. xxiii, 601pp; xiv, 549pp; xxx, 632pp; 688pp; 716pp; 722pp. Very good overall. Minor binding edgewear, with rear board of last two volumes starting and delicate but otherwise tight and decent, with leather attractive and spine gilt bright -- and internally all volumes are bright and near fine. "Edition Authentique" of this attractive set of writings (entirely in French) by and about the Roman Catholic saint (1572-1641) who founded the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary with Saint Francis de Sales in 1610. First volume is "Memoires," followed by "Oeuvres Diverses" volume II (lacks volume I of this subset), and finally 4 volumes of "Lettres" (volumes I, II, III, V). Ex-monastery library, with "This book belongs to the Monastery of the Visitation of Holy Mary of Dubuque" penned at top of each front flyleaf and with very few and discreet other markings.

Relié en plein carton passablement défraîchi, coins émoussés. Cet ouvrage dans sa reliure de sauvegarde, à été mal restauré, mais cette édition originale très rare est toujours recherchée.

Elle est due à Marie-Jacqueline Favre (1589-1637), une religieuse qui fut parmi les premières compagnes de Jeanne de Chantal. Provenance : Visitation Sainte Marie d?Orléans. Plein maroquin janséniste noir d?époque, beau papier marbré en gardes, petits frottements, usures aux coins. Bon exemplaire, peu commun.
