About this Item: Apollo, Poughkeepsie, NY, 1980. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good Plus. Octavo size, inscribed by Glenn Opitz. This volume an expanded version, printed in 1980, of an original work done by J. Collins published in 1973. "There is, of course, more to 'Women Artists in America' than the convenience of a biographical listing. While such a work has value merely as a resource, the information supplied here also serves to improve awareness. Women in the arts represent the fact of their existence while also sometimes expressing feminist issues in a creative context". (N.B., from book's Introduction.) ___DESCRIPTION: Brown cloth binding, gilt lettering on the spine, plain endpapers, inscription on the front free endpaper: "12/18/81 | To a "Fellow" Art Buff [underlined] - | Regards, | Glenn (with a flourish beneath)". We believe this is one of the editors, Glenn Opitz, given the inscription; but of course we cannot know for certain. Entries are in alphabetical order, they are interspersed with periodic black and white illustrations of the work of certain artists. Octavo size, the volume is unpaginated, we estimate the volume to be over 800 pages. The dust jacket is plain white with light brown lettering on the front and spine, the front being surrounded by a double ruled border, rounded on the edges; the back panel and both flaps are plain. ___CONDITION: Volume is near fine, with a strong, square text block, solid hinges, straight corners without any rubbing, the interior is clean and bright, and it is entirely free of prior owner markings; there is some faint rubbing to the bottom of the boards due to normal shelfwear, else fine. The dust jacket is unclipped (although unpriced) and could almost be called near fine; we are grading as very good plus due to a few short closed tears at the head of the spine, minor overall soiling and edgewear. ___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply, please contact seller for details. ___Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell. Please contact us with any questions you may have, we are here to help. Seller Inventory # SB2130

Comic-Con began in 1970 in San Diego and continues as a very special place for artists, fans, writers, celebrities, and other professionals to gather in celebration of all things wonderful in the world of comics, science fiction and fantasy, film, videos, anime, and fun. From Ray Bradbury’s foreword: “When I was in my late forties, I was asked to come down to San Diego to attend the first Comic-Con at the El Cortez Hotel. I was part of a group of about three hundred people, if you can believe that. The fascinating thing about this was that these people all loved illustration. We were all very happy being there and enjoying one another’s company.” Accompanying Bradbury (who is featured extensively throughout the book) at that first gathering were such luminaries as A.E. van Vogt, Jack Kirby, and Forrest J Ackerman. About this Item: 1986. Rare original poster from The Apollo Reunion July 16, 1986 in Washington D.C. Signed by 18 Apollo Astronauts: Buzz Aldrin, Charles Conrad, Ron Evans, Stuart Roosa, Richard Gordon, Charlie Duke, Michael Collins, Walt Cunningham, James Lovell, Donn Eisele, Bill Anders, Alan Bean, Jim Irwin, Al Worden, Rusty Schweickart, Alan Shepard, Gene Cernan, and Harrison Schmitt. From the collection of Frank White, author of 'The Overview Effect: Space Exploration and Human Evolution', a seminal work in the field of space exploration and development based on White's interviews with 31 astronauts. The term "Overview Effect" describes the cognitive shift in worldview that astronauts experience when they see the Earth from space and in space. Framed. The entire piece measures 22 inches by 17 inches. The Apollo program, also known as Project Apollo, was the third United States human spaceflight program carried out by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), which accomplished landing the first humans on the Moon from 1969 to 1972. First conceived during Dwight D. Eisenhower's administration as a three-man spacecraft to follow the one-man Project Mercury which put the first Americans in space, Apollo was later dedicated to President John F. Kennedy's national goal of "landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth" by the end of the 1960s, which he proposed in an address to Congress on May 25, 1961.
