Laid in are several leaves detailing cast and staff lists, as well as company credits, including each department (music, makeup, fire, television) used for the film, with several notations in holograph ink and in pencil. Based on Elliott Baker's comedic novel, about Samson Shillitoe (Connery), a frustrated poet lives with Rhoda (Woodward), a trustworthy waitress. When his writing proves to be too troublesome, Samson sees a psychiatrist, at the behest of Rhoda, and his philandering continues. Connery starred in "Goldfinger" just two years prior (1964), and the same charm and wit he eschewed as James Bond is seen in his Samson. Navy blue faux leather three-ring studio binder, with Warner Bros. studio credits printed in white on the front panel. Distribution page present, with receipt intact. Based on the play "A Loss of Roses" by William Inge, Lila Green (Woodward) dreams of being an actress and joins a band of traveling entertainers until her boyfriend abandons her near her Kansas hometown. She is taken in by an old friend, whose son falls in love with her. Her boyfriend returns and she performs a striptease for money, whereas the young boy falls out of love with her. Originally designed for Pat Boone and Marilyn Monroe, Boone turned down the role on moral grounds and Monroe died before filming. Nominated for one Academy Award. Set in Kansas. Red titled wrappers, noted as Revised Final on the front wrapper, rubber-stamped copy No. 853 and production No. 4082, dated May 11, 1962. Private investigator Harper (Newman) returns in this sequel to the eponymous 1966 film, investigating a blackmail plot in a Louisiana bayou, where he finds himself in between an ex-lover, an oil tycoon, and the local police. In this early draft of the script Newman's character is named Lew Ryan, perhaps evidence that the production did not begin as a direct sequel to %Harper,% but simply as an adaptation of the source material. A superb, unheralded 1960s thriller in which an innocent man is convicted of murder, spends 10 years in an insane asylum, and at the start of the movie escapes and takes refuge in the home of a married woman whose husband is first thought to be traveling on business, but then turns up dead.
