The book is in very good condition with hardly any discernible edgewear, a minor very narrow two-inch stretch of moisture shadowing along top right corner front free endpaper, otherwise clean pages with no names or other markings, sound text block, good hinges. The mylar protected dustjacket is not priceclipped and is also in very good condition with very mildly rubbed extreme spine ends, a neatly closed three quarter inch tear near the front joint, minimal paper loss. . All maps, plans and engravings present as called for including many large folding maps and plans, two of the larger folding maps have 5cm tears at inner corner but are mostly unaffected and all others are clean and sound. This copy that has been handsomely bound in contemporary full brown morocco gilt, was a presentation copy from the author's son, the Rev. William Fairbairn La Trobe-Bateman to the Stockport College of Technology and this is recorded in a bookplate to the front pastedown. Marbled e/ps.
