About this Item: John Murray, London, 1940. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. A humorously inscribed first edition of Betjeman's collection of 'Verses Topographical and Amatory'. The book is very good with browning to the endpapers; the jacket is good only with loss to the bottom of the spine and an early owner (probably James Irvine) has covered the jacket with plastic laminate in an attempt to preserve it. In his inscription John Betjeman (serious book collector that he was) makes ironic allusion to this misguided attempt to preserve the jacket: 'So good of you to have kept its dustwrapper, dear James, John Betjeman'. A delightful item. Please contact Christian White at Modernfirsteditions if you would like more information about this book. Signed by Author(s). Seller Inventory # 002823
