Item Description: Harper & Brothers, New York, 1950. Hard Cover. Book Condition: Very Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good-. Morgan, Elemore (photography); Chase, John (endpapers) (illustrator). Bound in green cloth with spine titles stamped in silver. Signed by the author, with "Very sincerely yours" (not personalized), and both illustrators (Morgan and Chase), on the half-title. John Chase has also added his signature caricature head with pipe above his signature. No additional printings. What is puzzling here is the lack of any of the standard Harper identifiers. There is no statement of edition, and no letter code, which should show a "Z" as the second letter. The dust jacket, which is price-clipped, carries the numbers 8020 on the front flap; 8021 on the rear flap. The book has no external blindstamping to indicate a book club edition (I can find no evidence that the Book of the Month Club even offered this book). All the titles listed on the author's page were published prior to 1950. So presumably what we have here is an anomaly. The cloth shows only very light edgewear with slight corner bumps and mild shelf slant. There are no marks other than the signatures. The dust wrapper has moderate edgewear, with several short tears (1/2" or less) but only one tiny chip at the lower front corner. It has been placed in mylar. We would enjoy hearing from anyone with a copy of this title with the Harper identifiers present. Uncommon with all three signatures. Signed by Author & Illustrators. Bookseller Inventory # 123771
