First edition of Grisham's first book. Octavo, original half cloth. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the half-title page in the year of publication, "To Barbara Best Regards John Grisham 9-10-89." Fine in a fine dust jacket. Jacket design by Susanne DeMarco. An exceptional example. A Time To Kill was rejected by numerous publishers before Wynwood Press eventually published it in a small first printing of only 5,000 copies. "Grisham's pleasure in relating the Byzantine complexities of Clanton politics is contagious and he tells a good story. An enjoyable book" (Library Journal).

Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Wynwood Press, 1989. New York. 415 pages. No Dust Jacket. A true first edition, first printing of John Grisham's first book! Signed and dated by John Grisham directly to the title page. Before the Doubleday printing, before the Wynwood bookclub, there was a tiny Wynwood hardcover print run of 5,000 copies of this edition. Legend has it that JG actually sold copies out of the trunk of his car. As we know things took a decidedly different path soon thereafter. It is an awesome story of hard work and success for a genuinely kind and generous person. As for this copy, binding and hinges are strong and sound. Book is tight. Plenty of time and effort has gone into this very copy which was previously in poor condition. The book has made a remarkable recovery yet is still being sold as Good+ only. The panels have been professionally cleaned and touched up as has some of the cloth. Most colors match up well though the purple touch-up on the bottom front edge is off. Copper colored endpapers have been replaced with same like matching colored endpapers. Half-title page is still slightly soiled. Title page and a couple of flanking pages have a circular stain as if something was dripped on the page. Despite noted flaws, this an incredibly uncommon true first printing of the author's first book SIGNED and dated by John Grisham directly to the title page. Sold as Good+ without the DJ. A large, tall book measuring approximately 9.5 inches tall by 6.5 inches wide. Size/height is the easiest way to quickly identify a true first Wynwood edition from the later Wynwood book club edition. Additionally, the color scheme is completely different as first printings have a purple cloth binding over copper/rust colored paper boards. Wynwood book club editions tend to be black. A true first edition, first printing; signed. Signed by Author(s).

However, navigating the collecting landscape poses challenges, particularly with the proliferation of fraudulent signatures. The limited Grisham editions we carry offer collectors a sense of security, as the signatures are inherently resistant to fraud-directly penned by the author and authenticated by the publisher. Beyond their authenticity, these editions cater to collectors' aesthetic preferences. Crafted with the collector in mind, the books feature carefully considered elements such as size, leather binding, tactile feel, and a protective slipcase. Full Leather. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine glassine dustjacket. Limited Numbered First Edition. A wonderful brown full leather Limited Numbered First Edition signed by the author. The shrinkwrap is folded in the back, never seen before. Was it rewrapped? Not sure but the book and dustjacket appear untouched and unused, and in beautiful condition. One of the nicest copies we have seen and getting very scarce in the signed limited edition, this book was the subject of a 1993 major motion picture by the same name directed by Alan J. Pakula, and starring Julia Roberts in the role of young law student Darby Shaw and Denzel Washington as Washington Herald reporter Gray Grantham. Great book, great movie!
