Item Description: Simon & Schuster, New York, 1969. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. "Second Printing" - on the copyright page. This copy is from the library of Edwin Pope, longtime sportswriter for the Miami Herald newspaper and one of America's greatest all-time sportswriters, with his ownership stamp on the first two endpages and on the title page. Pope wrote a book about Williams: "Ted Williams - the Golden Year 1957" (published in 1970). Prominently stamped "Withdrawn" on the first end page. Near the top of the same page is Ted William's gorgeous cursive signature in black ink. There are no other markings in or on the book other than a small "B" in black ink on the lower textblock edge. The book is very good plus - the white cloth quarter-binding is pristine, but the blue paper covering the boards on the covers is a little blotchy (from oxidation, I think). Otherwise the book is crisp and fine in a near fine dustjacket with light wear and a bit of fading to the red lettering on the spine (uncreased, unclipped). Included is part of the Miami Herald Sports section for July 6, 2002, the day after Ted Williams' death. This section includes Edwin Pope's long obituary/appreciation of the athlete, plus a long commentary by Dan Le Batard. Edwin Pope died in January, 2017. Also included is his obituary / appreciation from the January 21, 1917 sports section of the Miami Herald written by Barry Jackson and Greg Cote. A superb association copy!. Signed by Author(s).
