About this Item: The Ludwig von Mises Institute, Auburn, Alabama, 2003. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. 3rd Edition. There: You knew he was eventually going to start the title of one of his books with 'Epistemological," didn't you? ("Investigating the origin, nature, methods, and limits of human knowledge.") Originally published in 1933 with a German title sufficient to cause nightmares all by itself: "Grandprobleme der Nationaloconomie: Untersuchungen uber Verfahren, Aufgaben und Inhaklt der Wirtschafts . . ." oh, you get the idea. It's pretty much all about how we determine value -- which seems to involve the supply and utility of a given quantity of some commodity at a given time and place -- a gallon of water in the desert being worth a lot more than at the reservoir. Von Mises begins by refuting previous value theories -- especially the error of figuring the value consists of the amount of time and trouble as well as the initial materials cost that went into making something (which would probably make a 1952 Nash Rambler worth more than a 1962 Ferrari), but also correcting to some extent the value theories of the thinkers with whom he probably felt the closest intellectual affinity, Carl Menger and Eugen von Bohm-Bauwerk. Author von Mises -- the giant of modern Austrian economics -- then moves on to the perceived problem of "inconvertible capital" and "The Psychological Basis of the Opposition to Economic Theory," including "The Role of Resentment." A few bangs and scratches to the glossy boards, which appear never to have carried a dust jacket. 259 pp. including index. Reduced from $20. Seller Inventory # 004545

About this Item: FinanzBuch Verlag, 08.05.2013., 2013. 320 S. Sehr guter Zustand, ungelesenes Mängelexemplar, im Buchschnitt als solches gestempelt. 9783898797979 Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 1000 8° (18,5-22,5 cm), gebundene Ausgabe. About this Item: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, United States, 2008. Paperback. Condition: New. Large type / large print edition. Language: English. Brand new Book. LARGE PRINT EDITION! More at . There is a reason that this book has been translated to Chinese, German, Spanish, Czech, and there are many more on the way. This book hits the intellectual sweet spot, speaking to the issues that are driving economic events right now. We MUST deal with the money problem in a principled way, else we never get back on the course of sustainable prosperity. By "money production," the author is speaking not in the colloquial sense of the phrase "making money," but rather the actual production of money as a commodity in the whole economic life. The choice of the money we use in exchange is not something that needs to be established and fixed by government. In fact, his thesis is that a government monopoly on money production and management has no ethical or economic grounding at all. Legal tender laws, bailout guarantees, tax-backed deposit insurance, and the entire apparatus that sustains national monetary systems, has been wholly unjustified. Money, he argues, should be a privately produced good like any other, such as clothing or food. Seller Inventory # APC9781479280582
