About this Item: Indiana University Press, 1960. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. 1st of This Edition. From the inside cover: "Jubal Anderson Early was never a popular man, even in an army which gave friendship to the brave and he was among the bravest. Possessed of a telling wit, given to biting sarcasm, an individualist in every sense of the word, he was also capable of rare objectivity. His War Memoirs (originally published under the title Autobiographical Sketch and Narrative of the War Between the States) is very much a soldier's book: blunt, direct, informative, personal. And in some ways it stands as his greatest achievement. Certainly no history of the Army of Northern Virginia is complete without Early's version of events, for his operations in the Shenandoah Valley were not really part of Lee's main campaigns. Combining history and reminiscence, retaining a sense of immediacy, this book is essential to a comprehensive picture of the war." Slightly edgeworn, otherwise Very Good +. Seller Inventory # x2077
