Item Description: Whittington Press, Andoversford, Gloucestershire, 1979. Soft cover. Book Condition: Near Fine. Judy Ling Wong (illustrator). 36x25cm, [8pp]. With a line block reproduction of an illustration for 'Long Summer' advertised on the rear cover. Hand-sewn folded sheets, with an a laid-in order form for the book. The lavish Prospectus for a Whittington Press book of legendary scarcity, 'Harlequinade' was printed in a tiny edition of 20 and is extremely sought after. The prospectus is printed on the same luxurious Fabriano paper as the book, to the same format, with a tipped-in reproduction of a mezzotint. 'The prospectus for Harlequinade (1979) was one of the largest [of the Whittington Press prospectuses] in size and extent, running to eight pages on a lovely Fabriano Rosapina mould-made paper printed in red and black, with a reproduction of one of Judy Ling Wong's mezzotints.' (Butcher, British Private Press Prospectuses, Whittington Press 2001, p108). Unfortunately Butcher does not record the number of copies printed (presumably more than twenty!) but the Prospectus is still a scarce item in its own right. Please note this copy is missing the tipped-in reproduction of the mezzotint. Very Good (a sprinkling of foxing spots to the lower cover and to the margins of some pages). Butcher P42. Item Description: Whittington Press, Risbury, Herefordshire, 2002. Hardcover. Book Condition: Fine. Judy Ling Wong (illustrator). 1st Edition. 39x26cm, 62pp. With 37 original specimens of Chinese papers tipped in, a seal cut by Judy Ling Wong, plus a further sample in a pocket to the rear board, plus a further specimen in a separate card folder, plus in this special edition a further volume containing twenty additional tipped-in specimens. Copy xxxiii of 50 (250) in half-crimson Oasis over Fabriano 'Roma' red paper-covered boards, paper label with image of Chinese paper to front board, gilt titling to backstrip, with the second volume bound to a similar design but with half grey cloth rather than Oasis and no backstrip title, additional plain black card folder containing another paper construction, all in a tan paper-covered slipcase with cloth panels to head and foot. The papers, some of them stunning and several of them really 'paper constructions' rather than plain sheets, are shown to great effect in this lavish Whittington production. The half-leather special edition, as here, is scarce and adds significantly more magnificence, scale and variety to the book. Fine with Fine second volume of specimens, Very Good paper folder (an extra old crease from incorrect folding, specimen within unaffected), Fine slipcase. Bookseller Inventory # W0492

Item Description: Whittington Press, Andoversford, Gloucestershire, 1977. Hardcover. Book Condition: Fine. Judy Ling Wong (illustrator). 1st Edition. 35x25cm, [20pp]. With ten etchings printed in black, each initialled 'JLW77' and numbered 42/50. Copy 42 of 50, signed by Ling Wong, printed on Fabriano Roma paper french-folded and bound Japanese-style with a grey silk ribbon in Japanese wood-veneer paper covered boards, in a similarly covered slipcase with a title label to the front. One of Whittington's most luxurious and exotic early productions. Ten poems and ten etchings, both by Ling Wong, face each other on double-page spreads. The etchings, printed by Ling Wong on her own press, are each surrounded by plate-marks, making the overall impression approach a 'livre d'artiste' more than usual with Whittington books. A scarce and very limited edition. Judy Ling Wong later created 'Harlequinade' (1979), arguably the scarcest and most valuable of all Whittington productions. Fine, in a Fine slipcase, with a laid-in postcard advertising the Whittington Press and two flyers (not by Whittington) with more information about Ling Wong. Butcher 25. Signed by Author(s). Item Description: Whittington Press, Gloucestershire, 1977. Wong, Judy Ling (illustrator). Large quarto. (26)ff. One of fifty numbered copies signed by the author-illustrator. A collection of ten poems and ten etchings by Judy Ling Wong, beautifully printed on heavy Fabriano Roma handmade paper. Wong printed the etchings, which are in black, in her own studio; each one is signed, numbered, and dated. The text is printed in dark brown. The title-page bears the author's name in orange Chinese characters, which adds a lively touch of color. The binding is an elegant Japanese wood veneer by Hunter and Foulis, stab-sewn with gray cord. According to the Press, it was their "most unusual and successful" binding. Housed in a matching slipcase, with a paper label on the front cover. A very fine copy of an early book from the Press. (Butcher 25). Bookseller Inventory # 21367
