Item Description: Dover Publications, Inc., New York, New York, U.S.A., 1964. Soft cover. Book Condition: Very Good. Reprint. Published by Dover in 1964, this first Dover edition is an unabridged and unaltered reprint of the 1906 edition published by Fox, Duffield and Company. Everett F. Bleiler's excellent introduction and afterword are original to the 1964 book. Contents: The Cup of Humanity, The Schools of Tea, Taoism and Zennism, The Tea-Room, Art Appreciation, Flowers, and Tea-Masters. The author was a genius and highly schooled in traditional oriental ways, as well as then-modern western thoughts and practices. In this book, he paid homage to the conservative past, which was quickly passing out of existence in Japan. Interestingly, Okakura wrote it in English. In some ways, Okakura used tea as a trojan horse to introduce westerners to classical Japan and the Japanese way of life. xviii + 76 toned pages. 5-3/8" wide x 8-1/2" high. Very good condition, with some numbers and names at the bottom of the rear cover; otherwise unmarked. A small crease and closed tear at the top front cover. Clean. Bookseller Inventory # 002369
