Item Description: London, England: The Folio Society, 2007. Hardcover. Book Condition: As New. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 226 pages. Published in 2007. The author's breakthrough third novel. One of the greatest novels of our time. The First "Folio Society" Slipcased Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent printings, which are indicated as such by the publisher. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only that sold out shortly after publication. There is no ISBN. The First Edition Thus is now scarce. The production values of this edition are exemplary in every respect. Its Limited Edition quality makes it eminently collectible as such for Ishiguro completists. An exquisite production by Finn Campbell-Notman: Regular-sized volume format. Wraparound pictorial cloth boards with gilt titles embossed on the spine, as issued. Text by Kazuo Ishiguro. He has made a few corrections to the 1989 First Edition. Art by Finn Campbell-Notman: Seven evocative, full-page illustrations interspersed thoughout the book. Matching brown hard board slipcase. Printed on pristine-white, Caxton Wove archival stock paper in Cambridge, the United Kingdom to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents, in a lovely collectible edition format, Kazuo Ishiguro's "The Remains of The Day". His most beloved novel, now widely regarded as a masterpiece. It is pitch-perfect and heartbreakingly beautiful, a "tour de force, both as a compelling psychological study and a portrait of a vanished social order" (The New Yorker Magazine). The title itself comes from Freud: "Tagesreste" - literally, "the debris of the day" - which the great Dutch poet Judith Herzberg suggested to Ishiguro (who gives her full credit) as the apt title for his novel, then a work-in-progress. The Nobel Prize Citation is deeply moving, their 2017 Nobel Laureate is an inspired choice, but another authority sums it up best: "An original and remarkable genius" (The New York Times). The basis of the great film by Ismail Merchant and James Ivory, with the adapted screenplay by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, and career-peak performances by Sir Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson. An absolute "must-have" title for Kazuo Ishiguro collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on the title page by Kazuo Ishiguro. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. Ishiguro's signature on this copy is one of the most beautiful we have ever seen: Clean, flowing, and elegant. This title is a great book. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy of the First "Folio Society" Edition Thus/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Please note: The production values of this edition are exemplary in every respect. Its Limited Edition quality makes it eminently collectible as such for Ishiguro completists. A rare signed copy thus. Winner of the Whitbread Prize in 1986 for "An Artist of The Floating World". Winner of the Booker Prize in 1989 for "The Remains of The Day". Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2017. One of the greatest writers of our time. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER KAZUO ISHIGURO TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 0394573439.
