Im Weiteren wird in Kapitel 1.2 der Autor Hans-Ulrich Treichel und sein biographischer Hintergrund vorgestellt. Dieses Kapitel soll Hintergrundwissen für die Analyse der Novelle schaffen, da sie autobiographische Aspekte beinhaltet. Um die Problematik der Novelle besser bearbeiten zu können, liefert Kapitel 1.3 Informationen zu dem zeitgeschichtlichen Hintergrund.In Kapitel 1.4 wird dann das Leitmotiv 'Scham und Schuld' vorgestellt und begrifflich eingegrenzt.Im Hauptteil der Arbeit, dem zweiten Kapitel geht es um den Umgang des Erzählers mit dem Motiv 'Scham und Schuld'. Der Erzähler wird ganz bewusst in den Mittelpunkt der Analyse gestellt, da er am stärksten von dieser Thematik belastet ist und dies, obwohl er von allen Beteiligten am wenigsten Teil hat an der kollektiven Schuld. Zuerst wird seine Funktion als Erzähler an sich, in Kapitel 2.1 seine Kontaktpunkte mit dem Leitmotiv genannt und die damit zusammenhängenden Auswirkungen auf sein Leben näher betrachtet. Im Folgenden wird dann in Kapitel 2.2 sein Verhältnis zu den anderen Hauptfiguren im Roman analysiert und auf evtl. Auswirkungen des Leitmotivs untersucht. In Kapitel 2.3 wird die Frage verfolgt, inwieweit sich der Erzähler im Rahmen der Novelle entwickelt hat und ob das unter den gegebenen Umständen überhaupt möglich war.Im dritten Kapitel werden die Ergebnisse der Arbeit abschließend zusammengefasst.
