About this Item: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, United States, 2015. Paperback. Condition: New. Ken Rice (illustrator). Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. Russia claims to be disarming, then starts a sneak attack on the USA, destroying New York and Detroit with atomic weapons. Review by rovingone This is a fascinating series of comic books, giving the general view of the American defense department and a good big part of the general public in the United States in the fifties. When sci fi movies were centered on invaders and end of the world scenarios, the idea of a war ending all we knew was the biggest scare in the country as I was growing up. It was interesting to see a story where the war took place, (naturally started by the Soviet Union), in which there were far more than atomic bombs. The authors must have assumed there would be an unlimited source of atomic energy for use in atomic cannon, atomic guns and explosives devices and, even, atomic gasses. Considering the fact that the bombing of Japan hadn t been that long ago, at the time, and uranium was still hard to come by, the authors of the comics must have been assuming the free and communist world would be in a neck and neck race to create a huge stock pile nuclear fissionable material. About this Item: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform. Paperback. Condition: New. Ken Rice (illustrator). This item is printed on demand. 36 pages. Dimensions: 11.0in. x 8.5in. x 0.1in.Golden Age Horror and Suspense Ace Comics was the banner under which pulp magazine publisher Aaron A. Wyn and his wife Rose Wyn produced comic books between 1940 and the end of 1956. The Wyns had been publishing pulp fiction under the Periodical House and Magazine Publishers names since 1928. Like many comic book publishers of the day, Ace Comics earlier series included costumed superheroes, although as trends in the comic book market changed by the 1950s the focus shifted more to other genres, such as crime, horror, romance, and later, Westerns. The Beyond started out as Challenge of the Unknown 6 which was to be Ace Comics first horror comic, and it would be fair to treat this like a The Beyond 0. Challenge of the Unknown 7 was renamed to The Beyond 1. Weird, Spooky, Supernatural Stories. . . So warned by every cover page of The Beyond. . . One of the horror comics that gained notoriety in the Golden Age of comics. The comic reprints from Golden Age Reprints and UP History and Hobby are reproduced from actual classic comics, and sometimes reflect the imperfection of books that are decades old. These books are constantly updated with the best version available This item ships from La Vergne,TN. Paperback. Seller Inventory # 9781523293322
