Eins vorwegder Autor spricht selber von Projekt-Retrospektiven und so heisst auch das englische Original des Buches. Den Begriff "Post Mortem" nutzt er nur für Retrospektiven die auf ein gescheitertes Projekt folgen. Daher ist der Titel des deutschen Buches wohl ein Kniefall vor dem üblichen Gebrauch des Anglizismus "Post Mortem" im Deutschen. Für "Post Mortem"-Retrospektiven gibt es ein zusätzliches Kapitel, dass auf die besonderen Probleme in einer solchen Situation eingeht. Der Autor ist selber erfahrener Moderator von Retrospektiven und nutzt seine Erfahrung um dem Leser darzulegen, wie eine Retrospektive zu organisieren und durchzuführen ist. Die wichtigsten Punkte sind vielleicht, das halbherzige Retrospektiven mehr schaden als nutzen, weil in zu kurz angesetzten Retrospektiven keine Zeit ist, die wahren Probleme anzusprechen und alle Ergebnisse am Ende gleich aussehen, so daß die Retrospektiven sinnlos erscheinen und vielleicht gar nicht mehr durchgeführt werden (er empfiehlt z.B. externe Retrospektiven mit einer Dauer von 3-4 Tagen). Jede Retrospektive wird in drei Zeitabschnitte aufgeteilt (Vergangenheit, Gegenwart, Zukunft) und zu jedem Zeitabschnitt werden zahlreiche "Übungen" vorgestellt - der Begriff "Übung" ist etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig, er dient hier als Sammelbegriff für die verschiedenen 'Bausteine', aus denen man sich die Retrospektive zusammenstellen kann. Der Autor ist so ehrlich, aussichtslose Retrospektiven nicht durchzuführen, wenn die Zeit also zu kurz ist oder keine Gelegenheit für eine ordentliche Vorbereitung da ist. Den Mut zum "Nein"-Sagen fehlt leider (in der IT) vielen! Dazu passt auch, dass er gezielt Anforderungen an den Moderator der Retrospektive stellt, auch durch einen schlechten Moderator, der die Leute oder Situation nicht im Griff hat, kann eine Retrospektive Schaden anrichten. Welche Anforderungen Norman L. Kerth an sich selber stellt erkennt man, wenn man die Querverweise auf die Sekundärliteratur sieht (Psychologie, Kommunikation, Marketing, etc.) Mein einziger Kritikpunkt an dem Buch Der Autor betont immer wieder, das eine Retrospektive nicht zur Abrechnung mit einzelnen Personen werden darf und alles positiv formuliert werden soll ("Was können wir besser machen?" statt "Wer hat Mist gebaut"). Sicherlich darf man niemand zum Sündenbock für die Sünden anderer machen, aber in vielen Projekten sitzt halt doch ein schwarzes Schaf, dass sich vielleicht bei den 'anonym' aufgenommenen Problemen gar nicht angesprochen fühlt.
