About this Item: Duckworth & Co., London, 1972. Paperback. Condition: New. First English Paperback Edition. The philosophy of Peter Kropotkin expounded by a Dutch Anarchist. Inspired by anarchism, Dadaism, German philosopher (and counter-culture guru-to-be) Herbert Marcuse, and the Marquis de Sade. Van Duyn, a timid, introverted intellectual, soon became the major force behind Provo magazine. But while Van Duyn presided over the Provos' theoretical wing, another, more important element was provided even earlier by its other co-founder, Robert Jasper Grootveld, a former window cleaner and the original clown prince of popular culture. Translated from the Dutch by Hubert Hoskins. Roel van Duijn (born the Hague, 20 January 1943) is an activist and long standing politician in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Currently he represents Groenlinks in Amsterdam. Previously he has represented Provo (Kabouters), PPR, De Groenen and Amsterdam Anders/De Groenen. He was one of the founders of the Provo movement. He has also been fraction assistant of De Groenen for the European parliament. Kropotkin (9 December 1842 - 8 February 1921) was a zoologist, an evolutionary theorist, geographer and one of the world's foremost anarcho-communists. One of the first advocates of anarchist communism, Kropotkin advocated a communist society free from central government and based on voluntary associations between workers. Because of his title of prince, he was known by some as "the Anarchist Prince". Some contemporaries saw him as leading a near perfect life, including Oscar Wilde, who described him as "a man with a soul of that beautiful white Christ which seems coming out of Russia." He wrote many books, pamphlets and articles, the most prominent being The Conquest of Bread and Fields, Factories and Workshops, and his principal scientific offering, Mutual Aid: A Factor of Evolution. Foreword by Charles Bloomberg. An unread copy. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Seller Inventory # 043096

This 349 page New Edition Stated is proudly presented in both the publisher's original binding and original dustwrapper. The binding is blue cloth with gilt titling on spine. The light blue, dark blue, and white jacket is simple but quite dynamic in its implication. There is some chipping along the edges and at the folds, of the jacket, but they in no way detract from the profound revelations within the book. Plus, the jakcet is now protected against any future ambient abuse and resultant degredation by professionally fitted and applied Brodart mylar. The volume, simply put, deals with the origin and progress of human relations in society. The writer removes ethics from the sphere of the speculative and metaphysical and brings human conduct and ethical teaching back to its natural environment. You'll be amazed at what a totally unigue but accurate paradigm is thus offered the reader and student of the world. But enough said of select offerings which speak so very loudly for themselves.
