About this Item: 2015. Hardcover. Condition: New. 440 About The Book:-In the last couple of years India witnessed strong peasant unrest over the issue of land acquisition. West Bengal also came in the news headlines over the issue. The aim of this book is to provide the basic and practical information on different cytogenetic and molecular assays used for genotoxicity evaluation in aquatic organisms particularly fishes. The techniques covered in the book range from simple procedure of micronuclei detection in peripheral blood erythrocytes to a relatively advanced single cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE) or comet assay. All the methods described in the book are being used routinely in the institute and therefore tested. Significant features of the book include probit analysis for acute toxicity bioassay basics of blood collection lymphocyte culture chromosome aberration test and sister chromatid exchanges in fishes. It also includes a chapter on random amplified polymorphic DNA and ultra thin isoelectric focusing of proteins for assessment of DNA damage in fishes. About this Item: Sage Publications, 2014. Hardcover. Condition: New. India is, at present, embarking upon a major reform of its indirect tax system. This book highlights the importance of an integrated fiscal regime promoting innovations in efficient resource management, taxing polluting inputs and outputs, and spreading awareness about the problems facing the environment and its inter-dependent systems. The current structure of taxation in India, the book underlines, is characterized by inadequacies such as cascading, multiple tax rates and inter-state sales tax, fragmenting the all-India market. The ongoing fiscal reforms are aimed at ushering a comprehensive goods and services tax (GST) to address these concerns. The book argues in favour of integrating environmental considerations in the GST regime. It emphasizes the importance of eco-taxes on polluting inputs and outputs?at a higher effective rate?taking both the central and the state taxes into account. The book will be indispensable to students and scholars of public economics, public finance, environmental economics, ecological studies as well as policymakers, policy analysts and the informed general reader. About this Item: Serials Publications, 2010. Hardcover. Condition: New. Since the beginning of scholarship, social thinkers and intellectuals in general have been interested in understanding the condition and predicaments of human beings, but the subject - anthropology - that was exclusively and professionally devoted to these issues came into existence in the second half of the nineteenth century. In India, before anthropology as a discipline was introduced in the university curriculum, several colonial administrators (such as J. H. Hutton) and native scholars (for example, S. C. Roy) produced monographs and ethnographic accounts of great and lasting value. In the last ninety years or so that anthropology has existed in India, its progress has been woefully slow, notwithstanding the theoretical and methodological impact it has exercised on other disciplines in arts, social sciences and humanities. This volume, put together by the editorial team of The Eastern Anthropologist, has a close 190k at the status of anthropology. Divided into five sections, the volume covers the history of anthropology in India, different specializations in anthropology, contributions of different scholars to the growth of anthropology, and the crises the subject is faced with. It also includes papers that deal with the applied dimensions of anthropology. Printed Pages: 452. Seller Inventory # 45994

About this Item: Rawat Publications, 2017. Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. In the globalisation process cultures are influenced by one another and become more alike through trade, immigration, and exchange of information and ideas. However, in recent times the degree and intensity of the connections among different cultures and different world regions have accelerated dramatically owing to advances in science and technology. Globalisation has truly become an agent of social change. Post industrial revolution, the new world of entertainment and leisure activities have become an important subject of research in sociology. This festschrift, in honour of Dr. Ishwar P. Modi, an eminent sociologist and the past President of the Indian Sociological Society, brings together articles on various aspects of leisure in different societies. Both Indian and foreign scholars have contributed papers to this volume which would impress its readers with the richness of data on leisure and a variety of novel approaches to its study in cross-cultural contexts. Three ideas, however, are prominently noticeable in this book. First, the distinction of ‘work’ and ‘leisure’ is of Western origin. Its intellectual imposition to understand non-Western systems is fraught with risk, as concepts of ‘work’ and ‘leisure’ vary from one situation to another. Second, since great variation exists with respect to the activities of leisure, it is important that they should be documented as ‘thickly’ as possible. And finally, globalization has contributed a great deal in deepening the distinction between ‘work’ and ‘leisure’, and defining the contours of leisurous activities. Providing a number of empirical and historical studies of leisure from different cultures, this volume will be of immense value to the students of social sciences and humanities. (jacket).
