About this Item: J. Tonson et al. 1781 (MDLXXXI), London, 1781. Hardback. Condition: Good+. Brown leather boards; somewhat worn, and a little rubbed; front board nearly detached - needs very careful handling - but binding otherwise intact. Raised bands on spine; gilt titling on red leather panel at head of spine. Lady M is most famous for her "Letters from Turkey", sent back home from the Ottoman Empire, where her husband was ambassador, and for introducing the idea of innoculation to the West. However, we owe all that to these satirical "court eclogues", composed while she was still a popular figure at the Court of George I - they were circulated without her knowledge while she was recovering from smallpox, as a result of which she was disgraced, and had to flee the Court to join her husband in the East. ; 8vo (4" x 7"); 180 pages. About this Item: Geb., 16 + 165 + 167 + 134 p. Gebonden in bibliotheekbanden. Lit: Jacobsen Jensen 110 (Engelstalige editie, Parijs 1800). Seller Inventory # 15613

About this Item: Chez Auguste Mylius,, Berlin, 1763. In 8? (cm 10 x 16), cartonatura colorata muta coeva, titolo calligrafato al dorso su etichetta di carta, Pp XII, 290, (2) bianche, esemplare in buone condizioni, lievi uniformi bruniture. Traduzione delle "Letters of the Right Honourable Lady M---y W----y M-----e : written during her travels in Europe, Asia and Africa, to persons of distinction, men of letters, &c. in different parts of Europe. Which contain, among other curious relations, accounts of the policy and manners of the Turks ; drawn from sources that have been inaccessible to other travellers"; London, Becket and de Hondt, 1763. Seller Inventory # 9060
