The daughter of Lady Anne and Wilfred Blunt, famous for their travels to the Middle East and importations of some of the finest Arabian horses to England. This book covers care, breaking and training, selecting breeding stock, conformation and action, buying ,temperment, teeth and their importance, management , understanding of horses and more. She shares her thoughts and opinions based on a lifetime involvement with horses and ponies. Not specifically about Arabians, but lots of pictures and references. There are also plenty of her illustrations , many of which are quite amusing. Lady Wentworth has an interesting and entertaining writing style, sometimes blunt, sometimes funny,"Remember that your horse is largely what you yourself make of him so don't blame him too much if he behaves like an idiot! Maybe he's acting like the nomads mirror and reflects too faithfully!" . She also shares stories of her childhood, riding a zebra, her father, Wilfred Blunt, harnessing a stag to a carriole only to have it leap a fence, exotic pets, riding experiences etc. Ref W7 Size: 158pp. Bookseller Inventory # 017604

Item Description: Georg Allen & Unwin Ltd, London, 1957. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Full Title: "The Swift Runnder: Racing Speed Through the Ages: Including Standard of Points of Its Foundation Breed, The Marathon Runner." From the jacket flap: "Centuries before the racing horse made its appearance in Northern lands the Arabian horse was worshiped as the idol 'swift runner'. Lady Wentworth's . . . book deals with the swifter runner of to-day developed in England from the oriental prototype of speed, the Horses of the Wind, of which it was said that 'God let loose the swift runner and he went on his way neighing'. [This] is an authoritative standard for the racing prototype, unchanged, with 4,000 years of tested stamina behind it, but superseded by 300 years of specialisation for speed alone. It shows the Arabian at one end of the racing scale and the Thoroughbred at the other, with the Anglo-Arab halfway between the two." The book is tight and clean, though with lightly bumped corners. The dustjacket is price-clipped and substantially worn, with tears and chips; but it is in one piece. Still, a very collectible book. Bookseller Inventory # 01215

Item Description: Richmond Books, Oxford ,England, 1988. Hard Cover. Book Condition: Fine +. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. Lady Wentworth (illustrator). First Thus. Lady Wentworth at her best, demysifying the exotic Arabian Horse. This whimsical book, illustrated by herself and published in 1950, was extremely rare until it's republication in 1988. Boards are medium blue with silver titles on the front only. The book, 30 pp, has no flaws, is square and tight. The illustrated peach coloured DJ, in mylar cover, has two tiny flaws: an 1/8"chip on top center of front, and a small wrinkle in the upper left of back. A treasure for the Arab Horse enthusiast.
