(No place: no publisher), 1968. Original black cloth, gilt, illustrated, 136 pp. "In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy" at the University of Minnesota. Ernst C. Abbe's copy - he was Professor of Botany at the university and faculty advisor to Lanner. Laid in is some handwritten and typed correspondence between the two regarding this thesis. Ronald Lanner spent the bulk of his career at Utah State University. He is an expert in the ecology of the Pinon-Juniper ecotone that dominates the Great Basin. He wrote "The Pinon Pine: a Natural and Cultural History" (1981), "Trees of the Great Basin" (1983), "Made For Each Other: a Symbiosis of Birds and Pines" (1996), "Conifers of California" (1999), "The Bristlecone Book" (2007). A Fine copy, with some of the laid in material edge chipped.
