About this Item: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, 2017. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. In this inspirational book, preacher and educator Clarence Larkin explains the characteristics of Baptism which motivated him to join his denomination. Larkin offers in this fine work an in-depth guide to baptism, from its origins in the Gospels, to its character, traditions and doctrine in the modern-day. The aim of baptizing, and its symbolism in Christian belief, are also explained with the use of the Biblical Gospels and other sources. Never one to stray from the very core of his subject, Clarence Larkin keenly tells the reader about the origins of the very word Baptism . The ceremonial procedures, from the view of the baptizer and the person to be baptized, are also discussed. Quotes of the Gospel are frequent, with Larkin striking the tone of clarity which was his custom. The assumption that Baptists believe baptizement is essential to salvation is shown to be incorrect, with Larkin careful to cite the Gospels to support this assertion. The baptism itself is not a literal washing away of sins, but an affirmation of faith in Jesus Christ, his deeds and character, and the purpose of his death. It is up to the baptized person to adhere truthfully to this pledge, and thus attain their salvation. It is here in this book that Larkin reaches out to the pedobaptists - Baptists whom believe in infant baptizement - with a tone of reconciliation. At the time of writing there was marked disagreement between the Baptists in general, and this subgroup, which Larkin sought to make amends. Furthermore, various other denominations are described, providing some insight into how Baptism was organized in the United States in the early 20th century. Seller Inventory # APC9781543282818

About this Item: COSIMO CLASSICS, 2005. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. In this day of the revival of Spiritism, when so many. are longing to communicate with the dead, and are resorting to forbidden means to that end; a day in which science is trying to discover whether there is another world than this, and whether men live after death. it seems timely that a book should be written to show what the Holy Scriptures have revealed of the World of Spirits. -from The Second Coming of Christ The Reverend Clarence Larkin was one of the most widely influential pop theologians of the early twentieth century, and his works remain intriguing explorations of Christian philosophy today. First published in 1921, this fascinating book explores the depiction of angels, demons, and other spirits in the Bible, and features illustrations of Satan s Throne, Angels Appearing to Abraham, Christ Casting Out a Demon, The Witch of Endor, and more. Readers in religion, mythology, and classic literature will be riveted. Also available from Cosimo Classics: Larkin s The Second Coming of Christ, Rightly Dividing the Word, and The Book of Revelation. American Baptist pastor and author CLARENCE LARKIN (1850-1924) was born in Pennsylvania, and later set up his ministry there. He wrote extensively and popularly on a wide range of Biblical and theological matters. Seller Inventory # APC9781596052970

About this Item: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, United States, 2017. Paperback. Condition: New. Illustrated. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. This edition of The Second Coming of Christ is complete with the charts for which the author was famous, together with his other original illustrations. A devotional classic of the early 20th century, this book contains Larkin s investigations of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Based on his studies, Larkin concluded that the Second Coming was impending and that the events in Christianity hitherto - including the First Coming of Christ in Israel - happened in preparation for this great event. Larkin supports his thesis with a close analysis of Biblical scripture and other sources, which he supplements with a series of illustrations and charts which pictorially demonstrate the validity of his arguments. Various recurring themes in Christianity, such as the conflict between the church and the Kingdom of God, and the natural of the spiritual world from which Christ will return, are discussed. Clarence Larkin was a preacher and theologian who wrote a number of books which sought to explain the more obscure or mystical elements of the Holy Bible. His investigations were exhaustive, with every sentence and passage analyzed, explained and clarified for the lay Christian audience. Most notable of all is Larkin s profound influence upon visual representations of the Bible: his self-penned charts, often large in size and intricate, were printed and circulated separately from the books in which they had been appended. As The Second Coming of Christ is one of Larkin s shorter works, it may be used as an introduction both to his style of writing, and to his unique use of charts. Readers should note that as many of the charts are very large, the small print may require use of a magnifying glass to fully absorb the annotations. Seller Inventory # APC9781543237276
