A marine painter and etcher who studied at the Slade Art School, he was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1930. An avid sailor himself, Arthur Trevor Briscoe served as a Lieutenant in the R.N.V.R. during W.W.I, holding the command of a Motor Launch: one his duties being to patrol the Scapa Flow.
