Tall octavo, two-tone boards with dark taupe spine and light taupe covers, spine embossed with gilt lettering, front cover embossed with author's initials in gilt, [xiv], 514 pp., eight double-sided black-and-white plates, three black-and-white maps included. Two very pale spots on back cover, light spotting on top and fore-edge of text block, light foxing on first few pages, very light wear on tail edge of dust-jacket; otherwise a near-fine copy. First edition. Ronald Florence brings to life the volatile relationship between Lawrence and Aaronsohn, two headstrong men fighting for opposite causes. Lawrence's fierce commitment to creating an Arab nation was matched by Aaronsohn's fervent desire for a Zionist state, leading to many acrimonious public arguments between the two. Their differences were a reflection of what was to come in the Arab-Israeli conflict which is still being fought to this day.
