Poet Robert Lax and Beat Generation writer Jack Kerouac were friends throughout the Fifties and would correspond by letter on occasion. Included in this 18-page book is a letter written by Lax to Kerouac in late 1953 or early 1954. Also included are two previously poems by Lax written during the same period. There is a introductory essay by Paul J. Spaeth, Curator of the Robert Lax Archives at St. Bonaventure University. This book is printed letterpress and hand-bound into quarter-bound gray cloth boards by Bill Roberts at Bottle of Smoke Press. One of 26 Lettered Copies (A-Z) Poet Robert Lax and Beat Generation writer were friends throughout the Fifties and would correspond by letter occasionally. Included here is a previously unpublished letter written by Robert Lax to Jack Kerouac sometime in late 1953 or early 1954. Also included are two previously unpublished poems by Robert Lax written during the same period. There is a lengthy introductory essay by Paul J. Spaeth, Curator of the Robert Lax Archives at St. Bonaventure University. Quarter-Bound in red cloth. Each copy signed by Paul Spaeth and contains a sheet of artiststamps honoring Robert Lax and a 5" x 7" Vandyke brownprint of Robert Lax. Poet Robert Lax was born in 1915 and graduated from Columbia University with his longtime friend, Trappist Monk and writer, Thomas Merton. Lax worked for various New York publishers, founded the journal "Jubilee" and edited the broadside series, "Pax." He also traveled with a circus throughout Western Canada and even worked in the script department of a major motion picture studio. He moved to the Greek island of Patmos where he continued to write poetry. He died in 2000 at the age of 84. We have more than one copy of the lettered edition. The copy you receive is our choice.
