About this Item: London; NY / Jason Aronson, 1980. Condition: Gut. VII; 513 S.; 8°. Gutes Ex.; Umschl. mit kl. Läsuren; Rücken verblaßt. - Edited by Ruth F. Lax / Sheldon Bach / J. Alexis Burland. - The understanding of rapprochement, with its conflicts and resolutions, is a major addition to psychodynamic thinking of the past quarter century. Here is the first book to present a clear and complete elaboration of the rapprochement subphase of the separation-individuation process and to clarify its meaning in child development, its role in both child and adult pathology, and its implications for therapy. Although Margaret Mahler's intention was to study the normal separation-individuation process, she inevitably observed pathological deviations, particularly in the outcome of the rapprochement crisis. She reported behavioral outcomes ranging from neurotic symptomatology to narcissistic and borderline phenomena, and showed that an unresolved rapprochement crisis creates fixation points and intrapsychic conflict that affect the oedipal resolution. The book opens with Mahler's seminal paper, "Rapprochement Subphase of the Separation-individuation Process." Here are presented her conceptualizations, methodology, and observations of infant behavior. // Separation-Individuation: An Organizing Principle by Gertrude and Rubin Blanck - The Primal Matrix Configuration by Bernard L. Pacella - Rapprochement and Developmental Issues - The Role of Internalization in the Development of Object Relations During the Separation-Individuation Phase by John B. McDevitt - Triangulation, the Role of the Father and the Origins of Core Gender Identity During the Rapprochement Subphase by Ernest L. Abelin - Self-Love and Object-Love: Some Problems of Self-and Object-Constancy, Differentiation and Integration by Sheldon Bach - Ours, Yours, Mine by Anni Bergman - On the Expansion of the Affect Array: A Developmental Description by Fred Pine - Rapprochement and Reconstruction - The Prototype of Preoedipal Reconstruction by Harold P. Blum - The Origins of the Reconstructed in Psychoanalysis by Paulina F. Kernberg - Rapprochement in Psychopathology and Creativity - Adolescent Psychopathology and the Rapprochement Process by Aaron H. Esman - The Borderline Syndrome: The Role of the Mother in the Genesis and Psychic Structure of the Borderline Personality by James F. Masterson and Donald B. Rinsley - Homosexuality and the Rapprochement Subphase Crisis by Charles W. Socarides - Some Aspects of Aesthetics in the Light of the Rapprochement Subphase by Gilbert J. Rose - Rapprochement in Clinical Practice - Unresolved Rapprochement Conflict and the Infantile Neurosis by J. Alexis Burland - Residues of Split-Object and Split-Self Dichotomies in Adolescence by Selma Kramer - The Rotten Core: A Defect in the Formation of the Self During the Rapprochement Subphase by Ruth F. Lax - Overindividuation and Underseparation in the Pseudomature Child by Rex W. Speers and Dale C.
