Teeson, RADM, USCG (ret), President and Director, Mystic Seaport, with black Sharpie on the half title page. "It's fair to say that no one has brought more innovation to the world of boating that Ted Hood. Hood first became known worldwide as the man who founded Hood Sailmakers, which during the 1960s and 1970s was the world's largest sailmaker. He was the sole protagonist in a 12,000 word profile in the New Yorker (August 26, 1967) simply titled "Sailmaker." Yachting magazine called Hood "Sailmaker to the (America's Cup) Twelves." He became equally well known as a successful racing skipper, as the founder of Little Harbor Yachts, and as a creative marine inventor and yacht designer. In 1959, Hood's success skippering his first major design, Robin, in that year's New York Yacht Club Annual Cruise (winning four out of seven races) put Hood firmly in the publics mind as a top sailor, sailmaker, and yacht designer. Wrote Time magazine (August 17, 1959), Ted Hood's record was roughly equivalent to a rookie batting .425 in the majors. What made the feat even more outstanding was the fact that Robin was the first boat he had ever designed." In 1974, as skipper of the new Sparkman & Stephens-designed Courageous, he defended the America's Cup. Today Ted remains busy working on his latest ideas - from new boat designs to plans for a 1,500 slip marina. He lives in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, with his wife, Susan." - from the inner front jacket flap. Signed by Author(s).
