Charles Kellum (illustrator). 322 fine tested recipes. 40 illustrations. and 50 poems and spirituals. here is the 1935 recipe for a mint julep. have a thin tumbler very dry and warm. put a few sprigs of mint into the tumbler with a tablespoon of sugar and fill the glass 1/3 full of brandy or rye, stir well untill sugar is dissolved, then fill tumbler with shaved ice, put several sprigs of mint into the tumbler and serve when the glass frosts over on the outside.it is improved by shaking a little rum on top of the ice just before serving, handle carefully when serving so as to not disturb the frost on the outside of the glass. let me know how you like it.
