About this Item: Cosmopolitan Press, New York, New York, 1892. Stiff Printed Wraps. Condition: Very Good. First edition thus. Single issue with covers and advertisements. Small quarto, 10" tall, pages 257 to 384 + 56 ads ; stiff wraps. A very good, clean sturdy soft cover overall with moderate exterior wear and chipping at the spine, binding solid, paper lightly yellowed. This is an original copy and includes all of the editorial material and advertisements. Note: 'The Cosmopolitan' began publication in 1886, founded by Paul Schlicht. Taken over by John Bisben Walker in 1889, it became a leading periodical for popular quality fiction in its time, using illustration and the best authors, and being especially interested in keeping women readers--though not yet a 'women's' magazine. Subject matters range from current events and fiction, to history and science and was a significant rival to Munsey's, as well as Harper's. As such it makes a terrific read as an anthology of its moment in time. An excellent resource. Seller Inventory # 34428

About this Item: Heritage Press, Norwalk CT, 1976. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Douglas W. Gorsline (illustrator). 1st Edition. "The Compleat Angler' is the most famous book ever published in the literature of sport. It is also a work whose unique celebration of the English countryside has attracted readers around the world since it first appeared in 1653. Izaak Walton issued the final version of his beloved book in 1676. 'The Compleat Angler' is both a manual of instruction and a vision of society in harmony with nature. It guides the novice fisherman on how to catch and cook a variety of fish, on how to select and prepare the best bait and make artificial flies, and on the habits of freshwater fish. It promotes angling as a communal activity in which the bonds of friendship are forged through shared experience of the natural world. Walton lived through turbulent times, and found in nature the best salve for national tragedy and personal sorrow." [Pub. Info] The art and spirit of fishing captured in selections of prose and verse interspersed with anecdotes and notes on the how-to's of fishing. Slipcase. A beautiful, collectible copy. 1ST THUS.
