Prev. owner's signature 'John Gerrard' curiously dated ' Dec. 1886'-- probably of Restigouche , a farmer and fisherman and a member of the St. Helen's Angling Assoc. ' Fair in original blue cloth, gilt spine titles, corner wear, mended spine splits, inner hinge cracked, chocolate endpapers. Howietoun, a fishery established by Sir James Maitland in 1881 on his Sauchie Estate at Sauchieburn experimented in raising Trout and Salmon to early maturity without losing any to weather, flooding etc ; and just as importantly transporting them live throughout the UK and internationally. Covers protection of the fish, hatching, packing , the experiments etc. Quarto. Illustrated. Spine title lists this as Part 1 but no futher parts were issued. 278p (p). Seller Inventory # 034772

About this Item: J. R. Guy, Howietoun Fishery, Stirling, 1887. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Although Part I is printed on the spine it was the only part published. Original navy blue cloth with gilt lettering, slight rubbing at spine ends but well preserved in clean and sound condition with tight binding. Internally ver clean, partly un-opened. Tipped in at the front endpaper is a 3pp letter to Sir Hubert [Herbert ? ] Maxwell from A. D. Steel Maitland, dated Aug 31, 1907 on Sauchieburn Stirling headed paper. Folio, 278pp, frontis and other illustrations. Loosely inserted are 7 small photographs of the fishery, dated 1965. Book # 2106a. Seller Inventory # 10682
