An early view (copperplate engraving) of Huron Indians by Alain Manesson Mallet. Trimmed too close at top of page with the type DE L'AMERIQUE and 281 (page number) trimmed off, stain on right border, otherwise, very good condition. Verso: [282] // DE L'AMERIQUE // Des IslesTerre-neuve. otherwise very good+ condition. It was published in Paris about 1685. Description de l'Univers in 1683/6 THE MAPS and ENGRAVINGS in VOLUME 5 EUROPE and THE AMERICAS Etc Alain Manesson Mallet was a French cartographer and engineer. He started his career as a soldier in the army of Louis XIV, became a Sergeant-Major and an Inspector of Fortifications. His major publications were Description de L'Univers (1683) in 5 volumes, and Les Travaux de Mars ou l'Art de la Guerre (1684) in 3 volumes. Seller Inventory # 4744
