About this Item: ReInk Books, 2017. Softcover. Condition: NEW. Reprinted from edition. NO changes have been made to the original text. This is NOT a retyped or an ocr'd reprint. Illustrations, Index, if any, are included in black and white. Each page is checked manually before printing. As this reprint is from very old book, there could be some missing or flawed pages, but we always try to make the book as complete as possible. Fold-outs, if any, are not part of the book. If the original book was published in multiple volumes then this reprint is of only one volume, not the whole set. This paperback book is SEWN, where the book block is actually sewn (smythe sewn/section sewn) with thread before binding which results in a more durable type of paperback binding. It can also be open wide. The pages will not fall out and will be around for a lot longer than normal paperbacks. This print on demand book is printed on high quality acid-free paper. About this Item: Joe F. Manley, Gatlinburg, Tennessee, 1938. First Edition. Small Octavo. ix, 79pp. The Great Smoky Mountain National Park has drawn fly fisherman for its trout and bass as well as several other of the sixty species native to the region. This was the first book written exclusively on fishing in the smokies and was written by the park ranger, Joe F. Manley. He printed the work at his expense and only 3,000 copies were printed. After its publication, Field and Stream chose him as their guide editor (as did Outdoor Life). One of the most interesting photographs is of Manley at the Sinks on Little River holding up a stringer of smallmouth bass weighing between 3 and 5 pounds. His favorite fly rode "lure", a Heddon-made Flaptail can still be found among dealers in antique tackle shops and websites. In the Ultimate Fly Fishing Guide to the Smoky Mountains by Dan Kirk he says if you can find a nice copy for under $200 you should go for it. Bound in green cloth lettered in gilt, spine lettering gilt, some light finger soiling, near fine. Seller Inventory # 025132
