Maggie was a famous photographer for Life Magazine since its inception in 1936, rare in dust jacket, signed by a neighbor and friend in 1942, Miriam Kaduk in law to Erskine Caldwell (Maggie was his second wife) with her book plates, else very good, chipped dj, lacking one inch off the bottome of the spine, some tear closed and repaired, but complete, good. a rare book in dj Size: 4to. Marie Cosindas became best known for her evocative still life and color portraits. She was one of the first photographers to incorporate color photography into her work, which distinguished her from other photographers in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1962, Ansel Adams recommended Cosindas to Polaroid for their artist trial of their new instant-developing color film. Boards have shelf-wear present with a stain present to the rear board. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. This is an excellent book by an excellent photographer published just months after the actual military actions. The story of the Liri valey battles is accurate and the photgraphs are perfect and illustrate both the actual battlefield, individuals, and the conditions that the 5th Army troops had to deal with during the Winter Campaign in 1943/1944 leading up to the Battle for Monte Cassino. If you are interested in the WWII Italian Campaign and the battle prior to Monte Cassino, then this book is a rare find from the period. Those interested in the actions of the 34th, 45th, 36th and 3rd Infantry Divisions in the earliest and difficult days of the war in Europe can get a real first hand look the 5th Army actions of that time. Margaret Bourke-White (June 14, 1904 August 27, 1971) was an American photographer and documentary photographer. She is best known as the first foreign photographer permitted to take pictures of Soviet five-year plan, the firsthand American female war photojournalist, and to have her photograph on the cover of the first issue of Life magazine.
