Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Quarto. Quarter cloth and marbled papercovered boards. Binding loose but sound, rubbed and bumped, small tears at the spine ends, very good, each page being filled with newspaper clippings. This is an item patented by Twain, with the label.

Soft cover. Condition: Collectible-Very Good. First American (and 1st separate) Editio. (1900). Original printed wrappers, small crease back cover, otherwise a fine copy. Bibliography of American Literature number 3465. Second state, with corrected word on page 16. 28 pages, plus one page of advertising for other books by the publisher.

Later state of the text, with the following points corrected: cancel title leaf with copyright page dated 1884, p.9 with "Decides," p.13 with the illustration "Him and Another Man" listed on p.87, "with the saw" on p.57, p.283 with straight fly on cancel leaf, p.155 with the final '5' slightly larger, signature mark lacking on p.161, leaf 238 present as final blank, and frontispiece without the tablecloth present and Photo-Gravure Company imprint. Octavo (22cm); publisher's original green cloth, with titling and pictorial elements stamped in black and gilt on spine and front cover; [9],10-366,[4]pp; illus. Wear to spine ends (especially at heel), some rubbing to corners and lower board edges, a few scuffs and a very faint stain to rear cover, with some rubbing to text edges; a few faint spots of finger-soil to margins, else text is pretty clean; hinges sound; unrepaired, Very Good or better.
