Mark Twain is quoted as saying, "Eve's Diary is finished - I've been waiting for her to speak, but she doesn't say anything more." About this Item: Independently Published, United States, 2020. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English. Brand new Book. THE DIARIES OF ADAM AND EVE"Eve's Diary" is a comic short story by Mark Twain. It was first published in the 1905 Christmas issue of the magazine Harper's Bazaar, and in book format in June 1906 by Harper and Brothers[1] publishing house.Adam has a lot to learn about Eve, and even more from her, as she names the animals, discovers fire, and introduces all manner of innovations to their garden home. Mark Twain's diaries of the first man and woman offers a humorous narrative of biblical events, and at the same time a thoughtful argument for gender equality. It is written in the style of a diary kept by the first woman in the biblical creation story, Eve, and is claimed to be "translated from the original MS." Mark Twain is quoted as saying, "'Eve's Diary' is finished - I've been waiting for her to speak, but she doesn't say anything more." The story ends with Adam lamenting at Eve's grave, "Wheresoever she was, there was Eden. What if Adam and Eve Had a Diary?"He talks very little. Perhaps it is because he is not bright and is sensitive about it and wishes to conceal it. It is such a pity that he should feel so, for brightness is nothing. It is in the heart that the values lie. I wish I could make him understand that a loving good heart is riches, and riches is enough, and that without it intellect is poverty." - Mark Twain, Eve's DiaryMark Twain's short stories aren't about his religious beliefs. In fact, the Diaries of Adam and Eve should be taken with a grain of salt as they are humorous and witty and describe in a unique way the relationship between two human beings, man and woman who eventually end up falling in love with each other. About this Item: Skyhorse Publishing, United States, 2014. Hardback. Condition: New. Language: English. Brand new Book. Revered as one of America's greatest humorists and author of the "Great American Novel" (Adventures of Huckleberry Finn), the words of Samuel Langhorne Clemens more commonly known as Mark Twain resonate as strongly today as they did when he wrote them more than a century ago. A close friend of Nikola Tesla and heralded by William Faulkner as "the father of American literature," Twain's wit, wisdom, and influence continues through the present day.Printer, typesetter, steamboat pilot, miner, reporter, journalist, author, inventor, humorist, investor, publisher, lecturer Mark Twain was known as many things during his lifetime and has had at least as many titles thrust upon him since this death, but perhaps what he is best known for is being a source of good old-fashioned common sense. Whatever the topic whether science and technology, life and love, history and culture, travel and exploration, civil rights and human rights, labor and politics, or ethics and religion Twain had much to say and many ways to say it. Here, culled from his greatest novels, speeches, letters, conversations, and lectures is the best wisdom and advice humorous, sardonic, and insightful as always. Seller Inventory # AAC9781628737998

After Elsie's unfortunate sudden death in 1913 while visiting her sister in Lloyd Florida, Lester married again to Pauline and they had a child before 1915, according to census records.Lester Ralph attracted attention by his illustrations of Mark Twain's "Eve's Diary." Because of the graphic drawings, particularly those of Eve, the book was widely banned and the center of much controversy. Mark Twain himself was very pleased with the illustrations. Along with many libraries, when the Charleton Public Library in Pennsylvania in 1906 banned the book because of Lester Ralph's graphic illustrations, Twain referred to those making that decision as "the Charleton Library freaks." The story ends with Adam's speaking at Eve's grave, "Wherever she was, there was Eden." The charm, insight and wit that made the legend are all found in this slender volume. At one point Adam is writing about how Eve wants to friends with all the animals. This is particularly alarming in the case of the Brontosaurus. He figures it will wreck their home but it follows Eve around, "like a pet mountain". Twain uses his idea of the diary hilariously in delineating the differences between men and women. Eve is the more forgiving of the two, "he told on me, but I don't blame him"! Scroll Up and Get Your Copy!. Seller Inventory # APC9781535342810

About this Item: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, United States, 2018. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English. Brand new Book. Rare edition with unique illustrations and elegant classic cream paper. Eve's Diary is a comic short story by Mark Twain. It was first published in the 1905 Christmas issue of the magazine Harper's Bazaar, and in book format in June 1906 by Harper and Brothers publishing house. It is written in the style of a diary kept by the first woman in the Judeao-Christian creation story, Eve, and is claimed to be "translated from the original MS." The "plot" of this novel is the first-person account of Eve from her creation up to her burial by, her mate, Adam, including meeting and getting to know Adam, and exploring the world around her, Eden. The story then jumps 40 years into the future after the Fall and expulsion from Eden. It is one of a series of books Twain wrote concerning the story of Adam and Eve, including 'Extracts from Adam's Diary, ' 'That Day In Eden, ' 'Eve Speaks, ' 'Adam's Soliloquy, ' and the 'Autobiography of Eve.' Eve's Diary has a lighter tone than the others in the series, as Eve has a strong appreciation for beauty and love. The book may have been written as a posthumous love-letter to Mark Twain's wife Olivia Langdon Clemens, or Livy, who died in June 1904, just before the story was written. Mark Twain is quoted as saying, "Eve's Diary is finished - I've been waiting for her to speak, but she doesn't say anything more." The story ends with Adam's speaking at Eve's grave, "Wherever she was, there was Eden." The book version of the story was published with 55 illustrations by Lester Ralph, on each left hand page. The illustrations depicted Eve and Adam in their natural settings. About this Item: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, United States, 2018. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English. Brand new Book. Unabridged paperback edition Tom Sawyer lives with his Aunt Polly, who has many opportunities to punish him, and his well-educated half-brother Sid. Tom falls in love with Becky Thatcher, a new girl in town. One night he accompanies his best friend, Huckleberry Finn, to the graveyard, where they witness a trio of grave robbers. First published in 1876 and featuring one of the best-loved characters in American fiction, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is redolent of life in the Mississippi River towns in the 19th century, where Mark Twain spent his own youth. The innocence and humour of this tenderly nostalgic novel, mix with the harsh reality of adult life: superstitions, murder, revenge, destitution and slavery. This masterpiece is one of the most widely read novels throughout the world and inspired many adaptations, it will delight readers of all ages. Samuel Langhorne Clemens (1835-1910) is a great American novelist. He was first trained as a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi river - 'Mark Twain', phrase used on riverboats to indicate that the water is two fathoms deep and therefore safe, became the pen name by which he acquired worldwide fame. About this Item: Independently Published, United States, 2020. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English. Brand new Book. About Mark Twain's Letters - Volume 1 by Mark Twain Mark Twain's Letters - Volume 1 give us the background to his works and show Twain to us as a complex personality with very pronounced weaknesses and strengths: his deep and constant love for his wife Livy, his great capacity for true and loyal friendship, his impetuosity, his restlessness, his extravagance, his occasional childishness, his impatience, moodiness, vanity, generosity, tolerance, honesty, enthusiasm. Nowhere is the human being more truly revealed than in his letters. Not in literary letters-prepared with care, and the thought of possible publication-but in those letters wrought out of the press of circumstances, and with no idea of print in mind. A collection of such documents, written by one whose life has become of interest to mankind at large, has a value quite aside from literature, in that it reflects in some degree at least the soul of the writer. The letters of Mark Twain are peculiarly of the revealing sort. He was a man of few restraints and of no affectations. In his correspondence, as in his talk, he spoke what was in his mind, untrammelled by literary conventions. On his first trip to England to gather material for a book and cement relations with his newly authorized English publishers, Samuel Clemens was astounded to find himself hailed everywhere as a literary lion. America's premier humorist had begun his long tenure as an international celebrity. Meanwhile, he was coming into his full power at home. The Innocents Abroad continued to produce impressive royalties and his new book, Roughing It, was enjoying great popularity. In newspaper columns he appeared regularly as public advocate and conscience, speaking on issues as disparate as safety at sea and political corruption. Clemens's personal life at this time was for the most part fulfilling, although saddened by the loss of his nineteen-month-old son, Langdon, who died of diphtheria. Life in the Nook Farm community of writers and progressive thinkers and activists was proving to be all the Clemenses had hoped for. The letters in this volume, more than half of them never before published, capture the events of these years with detailed intimacy. Seller Inventory # APC9798603928296
