copertina morbida. Condition: buone. MARTYS MICHAEL TIPLER ANGELIKA (illustrator). Konrad Zacharias Lorenz nacque a Vienna il 7 novembre del 1903. Cresciuto ad Altenberg, paese situato sulle rive del Danubio, fin dall'infanzia ebbe l'occasione di coltivare la sua passione per il mondo animale, compiendo i suoi primi rudimentali studi all'età di sei anni e poi, in seguito, studiando a scuola la teoria darwiniana della selezione naturale. Nonostante il desiderio di studiare zoologia, al termine del liceo seguì le direttive del padre e si iscrisse alla facoltà di Medicina presso l'Università di Vienna. Contemporaneamente però affiancò agli studi in medicina, il suo personale interesse per la zoologia, arrivando a tenere in casa una scimmia cappuccina. Lavorando già come assistente universitario, conseguì la laurea nel 1928. La sua prima pubblicazione scientifica fu relativa a uno studio sulle taccole. Si sposò con Gretel, una ginecologa, e assieme vissero ad Altenberg. Durante il nazismo la sua attività come ricercatore fiorì. Dopo essersi iscritto al partito Nazionalsocialista, nel 1940 gli venne assegnata la cattedra di Psicologia all'Università di Konigsberg. Durante la guerra servì l'esercito tedesco in qualità di medico. Spedito sul fronte orientale, fu catturato dalle forze sovietiche nel 1942. Al termine della guerra, tornò in Austria dove riprese gli studi sulla Zoologia. Nel 1954 divenne direttore dell'Istituto di fisiologia del comportamento Max Planck, in Baviera. Grazie agli studi sull'Imprinting e sulle componenti innate del comportamento, nel 1973, assieme a Nikolaas Tinbergen e Karl von Frisch, ricevette il Premio Nobel per la medicina e la fisiologia. Autore di numerosi saggi e pubblicazioni, Konrad Lorenz morì ad Altenberg il 27 febbraio del 1989.
