About this Item: iUniverse, United States, 2011. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English. Brand new Book. Blinded by the light in America? Has America let you down by failing to live up to its orginal promise? Maybe "Phantom" knows something that you don't. Fall down the rabbit hole with Phantom and grab a ringside "dark room" seat as he turns America upside down. As he challenges glib (but dishonest) procrastinating politicians who promise the moon, but don't deliver ("overseeing oversight is all they do from day to night") and exploitive, verbally abusive motor mouth radio talk show hosts, While many honest politicians are shafted (and muzzled) for speaking out in more truthful (but politically incorrect) ways. Phantom also takes on ambulance chasing within America, or the practice of exploiting people with problems even further to make more money. My book explores issues revolving around criminal justice in America as well. Including how the Media contributes to the creation of crime (and criminals)by publishing names and ridiculing people in the newspaper, thus ruining reputations. Seller Inventory # AAV9781462069033

About this Item: Xlibris Corporation, United States, 2013. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English. Brand new Book. My book is a comedy and a social satire about how everyone starts out idealistically chomping at the bit to use their mind to the fullest. ("A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste" after all according to that Old School Traditional philosophy.) But after a while it sooner or later dawns on most everyone that what they are really doing is "wasting" their mind anyway. (Not only because no one ever LISTENS, but because nothing works the way it has been talked up). It's an up close and personal picture of how it feels when life throws you a curved ball (or a lot of lemons from which you have to fi gure out how to make lemonade). It's an emotional snapshot of how traumatic it is when nothing works out the way you once thought it would. When all those wonderful "ideas" and oh, so compelling words and theories cease to make any sense. But, rather than offering the reader a roadmap, it attempts to give an explanation for why nothing ever works. And how it feels to spin your wheels when your back is to the wall. And you're neck and neck with all those nasty, infuriating unmentionables centering around all that social control. Along with the downside, however, there is an equal and opposite upside. The world of Songs (and Poetry) is held up as a guiding principle through which to regain your spiritual balance, gradually become "unstuck" and once again able to reboot yourself in a new direction. It's also much more than a "blame yourself for everything and get out of your own way" guilt trip since it rejects all those simplistic cliche solutions found in Psychology books. Attempting instead to give the reader a much more focused insight into all those hard to put into words political, social and philosophical "outside forces" that affect why and how things can (and do) go wrong. About this Item: The Masses Publishing Company, New York, 1916. Soft cover. Condition: Fair. Hugo Gellert, Arthur B. Davies, Art Young, Maurice Becker, K.R. Chamberlain (illustrator). 1st Edition. New York: The Masses Publishing Company, 1916. The November, 1916 issue (Volume IX, Number 1, whole number 65). Large Folio, illustrated stapled wraps, 24 pp. Front and rear covers are separated and are edge-darkened and moderately chipped; hence just Fair. Rear cover has affixed the collection plate of photographer and writer Carl Van Vechten, noted for his work with the Harlem Renaissance and with the friendship-driven posthumous publication of Gertrude Stein's works. Internally, this copy is Very Good, with just modest toning and a faint stain. A strong report for an example of the very inexpensively-produced budget-of-the-heart icon The Masses was. See scans. Certainly one of the most seminal socio-political American publications of the last 200 years, The Masses was a collection of ideological art, opinion and reporting - usually contributed with little or no compensation - which strongly represented socialist / marxist values, but in a larger sense was representative of labor, women's rights, and radical left issues in general as those were at that time. Famous names of the era often contributed work, but the names of the regulars are themselves all now in history books. The now-timeless publication was shut down by the U.S. Government in 1918 on the basis of postal regulations, after two intense and ideologically-charged trials. Eastman and his sister, Crystal, then started The Liberator to carry on; after The Liberator closed its doors in 1926, The New Masses, under the primary leadership of Mike Gold, carried the radical flag. The Masses, as the first, is also the rarest. Text contributors to this issue of November, 1916 included Eastman, John Reed, Helen Marot, Seymour Barnard, Mary Heaton Vorse, Elsie Clews Parsons, Louis Untermeyer, Floyd Dell, Upton Sinclair, and Cuthbert Wright. Art was contributed by Hugo Gellert, Arthur B. Davies, Art Young, Maurice Becker, and K.R. Chamberlain, with Gellert (who would later frequently contribute to The Liberator) handling the enigmatic front cover piece. Check out all of these names. An extraordinarily rare piece of American publishing and political history. Please see scans. l-lng2. Seller Inventory # 001520
