About this Item: The Penguin Press, New York, 2013. First edition of this collection of poems by Mary Oliver. Octavo, original boards. Signed by Mary Oliver on the title page. Fine in a fine price-clipped dust jacket. Jacket design by Darren Haggar. Jacket illustration by John Burgoyne. Mary Oliver was described by The New York Times as "far and away, [America's] best-selling poet." She has won both the Pulitzer Prize in 1984 and the National Book Award in 1992. Oliver's poetry has been called an "indefatigable guide to the natural world, particularly to its lesser-known aspects" (Kumin, 1993). "Visionary as Emerson [ she is] among the few American poets who can describe and transmit ecstasy, while retaining a practical awareness of the world as one of predators and prey," reviewed The Nation. Holly Prado of Los Angeles Times Book Review noted that Oliver's work "touches a vitality in the familiar that invests it with a fresh intensity." Mary Oliver's Dog Songs is a celebration of the special bond between human and dog, as understood through the poet's relationships to the canines that have accompanied her daily walks, warmed her home, and inspired her work. Oliver's poems begin in the small everyday moments familiar to all dog lovers, but through her extraordinary vision, these observations become higher meditations on the world and our place in it. "Renowned for her love of nature, Ms. Oliver writes exquisite, lyrical poems that. remind the reader of how much there is to love in this world. Nowhere is this love more evident than in Oliver's latest collection, Dog Songs. These poems will make you smile, laugh, cry and nod your head in delighted agreement" (The Bark). About this Item: Beacon Press, Boston, 2007. First edition of this work which intertwines Oliver's prose with Cook's photographs. Oblong quarto, original cloth. Signed by Mary Oliver on the title page. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Photographs by Mary Malone Cook. Molly Malone Cook made her reputation as an early advocate of photography as an art form; she was a champion of the work of now-famous photographers, including Edward Steichen, Eugene Atget, Berenice Abbott, Minor White, Ansel Adams, Harry Callahan, and W. Eugene Smith. "The photographs Oliver has chosen reflect Cook s intuitive relationship with her subjects (even inanimate objects). The little girl on the stoop in New York City looks directly at the photographer, as does a kindly Robert Motherwell and a fierce, almost intimidating Walker Evans. Even though most of the photographs are dominated by a central person or object, there is a lot to look at in the margins, all part of the story. The stance of her subjects reading a book, looking through a telescope is always distinctive, creating the mood of the entire composition. The two photos of Oliver could have been taken only by someone who knew the subject well" (Susan Salter Reynolds, Los Angeles Times). Seller Inventory # 3419

About this Item: Beacon Press, Boston, 2008. First edition of the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet's twelfth collection of poetry. Octavo, original half cloth. Signed by Mary Oliver on the title page. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket. Jacket design by Bob Kosturko. "In Red Bird, Oliver revels in the beauty of the living world, and takes to heart its lessons in patience and pleasure, cessation and renewal. As piercingly observant as ever in this substantial and forthright collection, Oliver is rhapsodic. But she is also wry, caustic, and elegiac in critiquing our habit of violence, "the debris of progress," and the cruel fate of rivers, polar bears, and all the wild places and animals we've endangered, and from which we still have so much to learn" (Donna Seaman). About this Item: Penguin Press, New York, 2014. First edition of this "lyric collection to be treasured" (The New York Journal of Books). Octavo, original boards. Signed by Mary Oliver on the title page. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Jacket design by Darren Haggar. In this stunning collection of poems, Mary Oliver returns to the imagery that has defined her life's work, describing with wonder both the everyday and the unaffected beauty of nature. Herons, sparrows, owls, and kingfishers flit across the page in meditations on love, artistry, and impermanence. Whether considering a bird's nest, the seeming patience of oak trees, or the artworks of Franz Marc, Oliver reminds us of the transformative power of attention and how much can be contained within the smallest moments. About this Item: Harcourt Brace, New York, 1994. First edition of this collection of poems. Octavo, original half cloth. Signed by Mary Oliver on the title page. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Jacket design by Steven Cooley. Holly Prado of Los Angeles Times Book Review noted that Oliver's work "touches a vitality in the familiar that invests it with a fresh intensity.". Seller Inventory # 103332
