About this Item: 1955. unbound. Condition: very good. 1 page, 11 x 8.5 inches, an excerpt from her 1955 bestselling book "Sunshine and Shadow," in small part: ".I met Buddy in 1927. I had no more idea he would one day become my husband that I had of marrying the King of Siam. Actually it was not until ten years after the first meeting that I became Mrs. Charles Edward 'Buddy' Rogers.Although I saw very little of Buddy since he was traveling with his orchestra, I will say this: more than anything or anyone else, he gave me back my desire to live. A rather sad but delightful compliment was paid to me by Buddy while I was still married to Douglas. When people asked him if he ever intended to marry, he replied in his direct manner: 'No, the woman I love is already married.' That the reference was to me was generally known to newspaper people. Out of respect to a marriage everyone idealized, no one ever so much as hinted at it in print." Faint wrinkling, but still in very good condition overall. Canadian-American film actress known as "America%u2019s Sweetheart.". Seller Inventory # 280348

About this Item: The Bobbs-Merrill Company, Indianapolis and New York, 1935. Hardcover. Condition: Near fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very good. First Edition. The acclaimed actress' first novel, concerning a young American widow who, to take care of her child, becomes a naughty temperamental singing star in a Parisian revue. Known in her prime as "America's Sweetheart" and the "girl with the curls," Pickford (1892-1979) was one of the Canadian pioneers of early Hollywood and a significant figure in the development of film acting. Pickford was one of the earliest stars to be billed under her name (film performers until that time were usually unbilled), and was one of the most popular actresses of the 1910s and '20s. This copy is inscribed on the front flyleaf by Pickford's third and last husband, actor and band leader Buddy Rogers ("Valerie, Mary would wish the best of every thing - so do I, Buddy '59"). Accompanied by four holographic love notes from Rogers to Pickford. Octavo. Original blue cloth binding, with gilt titles. Small ink date ("May 7, 1959") to the rear flyleaf. An especially crisp, near fine copy in a very lightly edgeworn dust jacket with a small tape repair to the verso and an extremely faint stain to top corner of the front panel. Housed in a custom two-part solander case with three leather spine labels and gilt stamping. Seller Inventory # 66175

About this Item: Photoplay Magazine, Chicago, 1930. Hardcover. Condition: Very good- condition. First Edition. A unique collection of 124 autographs of movie stars. Contains [iv] pages including an introduction by James R. Quirk, followed by 250 black-and-white photographs of movie stars, with their biographical information printed below. The hardcover binding is rubbed, somewhat worn and is slightly discolored. The first several pages and illustrations have a child's pencil scribble or pencil stabs, page 11-12 is torn out, a few pages with a chip or piece torn off, one unsigned page with a tape repair, a few pages are slightly toned, numerous pages with small tears and soiling, and other minor defects. The person who collected the autographs, Janice Clutterham of Chicago, was a broadcast radio singer, using the stage name Janice Melody, Melode, or Melodie. She sang with Chicago bands and went to Hollywood for a brief time and continued her singing career and collected these autographs, several of which are personally inscribed to her.
