About this Item: Draupadi Verlag Dez 2016, 2016. Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. 140 pp. Deutsch. About this Item: Baden-Baden: Ergon (vormals Steiner Wiesbaden), 1986. Broschiert. Condition: Sehr gut. XII, 339 S. 25 Ill., 2 Kt. Ein gutes und sauberes Exemplar. - What led to the present study of Ankalamman was the simple question: 'How do 'village' goddesses of Tamilnadu differ from each other?' To answer this question, one first of all needs to know who these goddesses are, where they are and how and by whom they are worshipped. At the time I decided to do my fieldwork in Tamilnadu, a detailed study which dealt with one particular goddess and encompassed the whole state had (to my knowledge) not yet been published. The need for such a study was demonstrated by the following considerations: are there unifying factors in the cult of a goddess throughout Tamilnadu, and if there are, what are they? If there are differences, are they based on locality? Are they due to the involvement of particular caste communities with the goddess? In other words, do these goddesses have a distinct character, expressed in the myths and rituals associated with them, which sets them apart from each other throughout Tamilnadu, or are they (and how much are they) colored by their geographic and social environment? Can some of these goddesses be substituted for each other (on grounds other than their identification with the universal Sakti or with either Siva's or Visnu's wife or wives), or are there clear boundaries between them? «Adivasi» ? in Indien. 1100 gr. About this Item: Otto Harrassowitz Verlag 0. Softcover. Condition: Gebraucht. KEIN IMPRINT WIE NEU UND VERLAGSFRISCH!!! Masilamani-Meyer, Eveline Guardians of Tamilnadu Folk deities, folk religion, Hindu themes Neue Hallesche Berichte 5 pages/dimensions: 279 Seiten, 2 Tabellen - 23,0 × 15,5 cm language: engl binding: Paperback weight: 470 g publishing date: 1. Auflage 2004 price info: 96 Eur ISBN: 978-3-447-06318-0 The gods and goddesses that populate the Tamil villages and countryside are rarely called Siva, Vis?n?u or Parvati and yet, they are understood to be forms or aspects of these pan-Hindu deities. Similarly, the ritual performed for the folk deities show traits antagonistic to Brahmanical values and yet, we find in them symbols and myths common to the "high" Sanscritic tradition. In the present work the author traces patterns and structures that help the reader understand the salient features of Tamil folk Hinduism and its differences to and similarities with the "high" tradition. The book has chapters on the arrangement of the folk deities in the temple, the deities' place in the ordered and wild space, their relationship with the pan-Hindu gods and goddesses and chapters on how the devotees connect to the folk deities through myths, rituals and worship. The great diversity and richness of the Indian folk religion and the ever greater assimilation of folk cults into the "high" tradition are topics that need to be explored in depth. The present book is a contribution towards this goal. Buch. Seller Inventory # 19683
