Textblock, endsheets, and interior pages clean. A Very Good or better copy of this curious handmade book of poetry and art. Laid-in at front are: a CD… in paper sleeve, a hand-addressed envelope, a typed poem, and a one-page letter, typewritten and signed. The letter is addressed to Peter Gizzi, who served as the Poetry Editor at The Nation from 2007 to 2011. Sympathy submits a poem titled "national student debtor's union day" for publication in the magazine and includes his "one and only book and cd" in lieu of a biography or resume. Signed by Max Sympathy, presumably a pseudonym. Little can be found online about the poet, though text on the CD sleeve indicates that the recording was made at the Frederick and Francis Sommer Cabin in Prescott, AZ. Until 2017, the Frederick and Francis Sommer Foundation accepted one Prescott College student for an annual arts fellowship. As of February 2026, we locate only one copy in OCLC at the University of Arizona. Peter Gizzi," Lannan Center for Poetics and Social Practice "Foundation," Frederick & Frances Sommer Foundation.
