Pen and ink drawings on gessoed artists' boards measuring 16" x 20" (cover art) and 7½" x 10" (full-page drawings). Very lightly soiled, with a few production notes and captions in the margins, just about fine, all with protective paper sleeves. The jacket cover art of a giant cat also has two photographic overlays: one is black, and the other, representing the dark blue background, is colored red. The drawings illustrate this anthology of 13 Yarns by Mark Twain, Washington Irving, Poe, Kipling, and others. The complete suite of drawings for this newly illustrated revised edition was first published by Macrae Smith in 1942 and reissued in 1963. Accompanied by a good ex-library copy of the 1963 edition of book in very good dust jacket for comparison.

Original black and white painting measuring 10.5" x 13", painted directly on artist's board (15" x 20"), with two additional small pen and ink drawings tipped-in on a plastic overlay, and protective paper overlay. A few small production notes and measurements in the margins, near fine. A classic painting of the adventure genre, A.R. Channel's popular story about the missionary aspirations, and struggle for survival, of an American teenager serving as a foreign service volunteer in Uganda. Accompanied by a very good copy of the book in very good dustwrapper that prints the painting in a maroon tint for comparison.

A large scale painting by Machini, best known for his magazine cover art (The Saturday Evening Post and Readers Digest), and commissioned portraits (including Captain Harvey Barnum, a congressional Medal of Honor winner).
