Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - The Red Swan's Neck: A Tale of the North Carolina Mountains is a novel written by David Reed Miller and first published in 1911. The story follows the life of a young woman named Mary Penrose, who lives in a small mountain community in North Carolina. Mary is known for her beauty and her fiery spirit, but she is also plagued by a mysterious birthmark on her neck that resembles the shape of a red swan.As the story unfolds, Mary's life is filled with trials and tribulations. She falls in love with a local man named Jack, but their relationship is put to the test when Jack is accused of a crime he did not commit. Mary must use her wits and determination to clear Jack's name and prove his innocence.Throughout the novel, Miller paints a vivid picture of life in the North Carolina mountains, with its rugged terrain, harsh winters, and close-knit communities. He also explores themes of love, loyalty, and the struggle for justice in a world that can be cruel and unforgiving.Overall, The Red Swan's Neck is a gripping tale of love and adventure set against the backdrop of one of America's most beautiful and rugged landscapes. It is a timeless classic that continues to captivate readers over a century after its initial publication. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 22 pp. , + [1] portrait frontis. Illus. with 1 b/w portrait. Sm. 4to. James H. Potter "was born on a farm at Library, Pa., October 3d, 1828, and died at Eustis, Florida, April 11th, 1903. Ordained by the Presbytery of Dubuque in 1855, he served as Pastor of Presbyterian churches in Iowa, Ohio, Illinois, Maryland, Wisconsin, and Florida. This tribute is less a chronicle of Dr. Potter's career than an appreciation of the beauty of his character and the charm of his personality. The glow of affection which inspired these pages, together with their writer's gifts of vision and delineation, surround the figure of his friend with some thing like the atmosphere of poetry ; and the reader finds his own feelings drawn toward 'a man whom the little children loved'." Journal of the Presbyterian Historical Society (1901-1930), vol. 3, no. 3, 1905, pp. 148-49. OCLC locates only two copies: State Hist. Soc. Lib of Iowa & Presbyterian Hist. Soc. Lib. Manuscript / Paper Collectible
Archive of scripts and revision pages for 56 episodes of the detective television series dated variously between 1958 and 1960. Copies belonging to screenwriter Lewis Reed, with his manuscript name on the front wrapper of each episode. 36 scripts contain pink, blue, white, and yellow revision pages, many bound separately and laid in at the rear. Included are screenplays for nearly half of the 114-episode run of the series, starring the sophisticated, sharp-dressed, jazz-loving private eye Peter Gunn, played by Craig Stevens. Probably the only television show to ever rival the best films noir of the big screen, with minimalist dialogue and bleak, open-ended conclusions that challenge even the best of television today. Creator Blake Edwards would use the success of the series to jump start his film career, going on to direct "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (1961) and the "Pink Panther" film series starring Peter Sellers. Noted composer Henry Mancini won an Emmy and two Grammy Awards for the show's well-loved theme song, including the first Grammy ever awarded for Album of the Year. Scripts in Very Good to Near Fine condition. Mimeograph on eye-rest green or white stock.
