The 25th served in the West, saw action in the Spanish American War, and was later stationed in the Philippines, Hawaii and Arizona. Nankivell, the author ,is identified on title-page as Captain, 25th Infantry and appears on page 156 as a white officer in the front row of a group photo. Private Washington, whose inscription appears on the pastedown, appears in Row 3 of the group photograph of Company H.
