Original staple-bound landscape wraps 16x12cm, with colour painting to the front and map of growing areas to the back credited to Guy Onkelinx, Brussels. (20)pp French text with b/w photos in-text and 4 full-page colour photos to the centre. Good or better, lightly creased with small nicks. Undated c1933 (the latest date spotted in the text is Nov 1932). This attractively produced work opens with a quote from M.A. Whittaker (Vice President of the Standard Commercial Tobacco Company) crediting the growth of the cigarette industry to Turkish tobacco. The following sections describe its introduction to Turkey, unique characteristics, growing conditions, cultivation, invention of the cigarette by a Turkish soldier who'd had a pipe dislodged from his mouth, and global consumption (predominantly focusing on US market trends). A section on main growing areas (the Black Sea, Marmara Basin, and Aegean or Izmir) details their specific conditions, characteristics, and production. Final sections describe the role of the Turkish Monopolies Administration, and the physical appearance of each brand, among them the liquorice papered Yaka with golden tip and Dame with fancy tip. The in-text photos show factory buildings, plantations, and various processes. The colour photos present picturesque views of the Bosphorus, leaves drying in the sun, packed tobacco, and loading on to wooden boats. Distributors are named with their addresses in the Hedjaz (Mohammed Moussa Hkodjendi, La Mecque), Jerusalem (Joseph Albina), Bagdad (GG Abdeni & Co), Switzerland, Holland, Denmark, and Sweden. Not recorded on Worldcat or Library Hub.
