Gisella Perl was a Romanian Jewish gynecologist deported to Auschwitz concentration camp in 1944, where she helped hundreds of women as inmate gynecologist without the bare necessities to perform her work. She survived, emigrated to New York and was one of the first women to publicize these experiences in English in this memoir. Jacket slightly rubbed but otherwise a very good copy. Book.

Octavo. 189pp. The narrow dust jacket flaps were at one point taped to the pastedowns, thus there is tape residue on the jacket flaps, pastedowns, and a tiny bit on the flyleaves. Otherwise, a near fine copy in moderately worn and slightly misfolded, very good dust jacket. Inscribed by Dr. Perl on the front fly: "I offer my book with my friendship to Mr. Milton Goldman. Dr. Gisella Perl. Nov. 1983." Laid in is a 1984 autograph note signed on Rabbi Pesach Raymon Yeshiva letterhead, from Yesioel Aurbach(?) to Goldman, thanking him for loaning the book. First published in 1948.

The author was a doctor who, among other medical procedures, performed clandestine abortions to save pregnant women from extermination and experimentation at Auschwitz. Includes accounts of Dr. Josef Mengele's experiments on twins. Bound in the original brown cloth, stamped in black.
