B&w line drawings, decorations, and page borders, which are said to be facsimilies of the woodcuts in A Book of Christia Prayers printed by John Day in 1569. . The author (1819-80)was incumbent of Kentish Town and one of the minor canons of Saint Paul's. Yet he found time to write nearly 50 poetic prayers for women on all of life's occasions; their weddings, when their husbands are away, when their husbands are sick, domestic duties, recovering from her confinement, her infant, the death of a child, a lost little one, a disobedient child, a son going out into the world, a daughter on her wedding day, in a time of adversity and for a ruined husband, on the estrangement of her husband's affections, in the first hours of widowhood, and when death approaches. One wonders if he wrote a similar book for men - but then, men never read instructions.
