Interior is in VG antiquarian condition - some antique tape stains, the usual and unavoidable offsetting from the text block onto itself, several-hundred-year-old faded antique ink underlining in multiple spots. Jackson, 1737-1795, originally secretary to the bigamous Duchess of Kingston, was involved in laying a false charge of sodomy against the actor Samuel Foote in 1775. He was a preacher, journalist, playwright and radical sympathiser, being involved in negotiations in France. As the trial went against him, at his sentencing he took poison, probably provided by his wife, and dropped dead in the dock. The treason charges, extending over 12 pages, accused Jackson of encouraging the King's enemies in France to invade Ireland.
